Do you want to be a local Councillor – and to stand up for what you and we believe in? We are seeking volunteers.
If you care about Teignmouth, Bishopsteignton or Shaldon and the issues facing local people, you could be a Councillor.
What matters to you in Teignmouth? Is it the young people, improving services for older people, making the roads safer or ensuring that local businesses can thrive?
Whatever needs changing in Teignmouth, you could be just the person to change it by becoming a local Councillor. This role gives you a chance to make a huge difference to quality of life for people living here.
You may enjoy reading the local newspaper and have a strong opinion on the issues you read about; or talking to friends and colleagues about what’s going on in Teignmouth; or feel that certain sections of our community are getting a bad deal and need stronger representation; or be interested in issues concerning crime, schools, transport or the environment. Our local council can make a difference on all these issues and so can you as a local Councillor.
As Councillors are elected to represent the local community, they must either live or work in the area. Becoming a Councillor is both a rewarding and privileged form of public service. You will be in a position to improve the quality of people’s daily lives and prospects.
It requires time, commitment and hard work - you will need to balance the needs and interests of residents, the political party and the council.
Discuss becoming a councillor with your family and friends to make sure they understand because you will need their support.
